Designing on a Dollar
Part 4 in my bootstrapping is all about design. I use Canva for Work and absolutely love it. I started with the free version of Canva but quickly upgraded to Canva for Work. The extra features are well worth the money that I spend.
Let’s start with pricing. You can use Canva for FREE yes free 🙂 That is how I started using Canva myself. If you decide, like I did, that you need to take it up a notch you can upgrade to Canva for Work which is $12.95 per month or $9.95/month when paid annually. When you upgrade to Canva for Work you get some extra tools like:

Business on The Broke
To give full disclosure I am totally in love with 17Hats! When I first starting running my business on the broke, this was one of the first tools that I purchased (like within the first month)! I don’t want to give a biased opinion but I am going to share all the reasons why I love 17Hats. This is not a comparison with Dubsado or any of the others because I haven’t used them. I landed on 17Hats and I just haven’t felt inclined to try anything else.
If you have never heard of 17Hats, let me just tell you why you are going to fall in love with this platform. We’ve all heard the phrase “I wear many hats” and when you run your own small business that is exactly what you have to do. So a very appropriate name indeed! With this one tool you can create and send contracts, invoices, manage client data, create workflows, schedule projects, and so many more tasks. Forget about cobbling together a hand full of tools to manage all.the.things. With 17Hats your business is covered from lead generation through contracts and payment, all the way to project completion.

Let’s talk about email marketing
E-mail marketing is one of the oldest online tools and still very effective if it’s done the right way. And one of the most popular email service providers (or ESP) is MailChimp. Mostly, because it’s free at a beginner’s level. Because I want your business to succeed I want to talk to you about your marketing efforts. First, you really will have to stop marketing like a monkey. You need to make the most out of your email marketing efforts. No more monkey see monkey do.
What I mean is…

Scheduling on the Skinny

When I first started out as an entrepreneur offering my services virtually, there were so many tools that I felt like I needed. I needed a tool for designing, scheduling, and something to handle my clients. There were a ton of posts in all the Facebook groups. Each one talked about a different tool and all the things it could do for you. I would read about all the different tools that my colleagues were using and I would think oh I need that, but I can’t afford it right now. When my business grows, that’s when I’ll sign up.

What Is Email Marketing?
Do I Need Email Marketing?
Yes, you absolutely do. Are you a new business trying to establish a name for yourself? Email marketing – that is how I am going to learn about you. Have you been in business for years and have a loyal client base, that’s great! But are you offering anything new? Do you have any specials going on right now? How will I know if you don’t share with me through email marketing?
Some people tell me they don’t want to do email campaigns and send constant emails to their customers. It’s makes them feel spammy and gross. They tell me that they have gotten sucked into these email traps and they receive a daily email of some schmuck trying to guilt them into buying whatever product they are hocking. I completely understand, I have been there.
It Doesn’t Have To Be That Way.
Blog To Grow Your MLM Business
Are you sick and tired of chasing customers? Everywhere you go you are approaching friends, family, and strangers to talk about your product. Have you ever thought of setting up a blog to promote yourself? Wouldn’t it be great to sit comfortably at home and write a couple of blog posts, and let people come to you?
Not only is it easier on you, but it is easier for your potential customer. They have the opportunity to read your posts and get to know you. If you write on subjects that are inspiring, compelling, and interesting you should develop a good following fairly quickly.

One and Done Website

What is a one and done website?
That’s what I like to call a one-page website. You just pop your logo in the header along with a site menu. Your site visitors can scroll from top to bottom in your website. There is no need to click through different pages to see all of your content.
This is great for potential clients that visit your site and don’t feel inclined to jump from page to page to hunt down information. Also, for the well traveled visitors you have a handy menu bar at the top of your page for navigation. They can simply click on a specific keyword to jump straight to the information they want.

You Need A Stranger In Your Business
A stranger?
Well, ok maybe stranger is a little strong. You need someone to do the work without having to label them as an employee and put them on the payroll. Let’s face it, you have way too much to do. It’s robbing you of the time you need to grow your business.
You know what I’m talking about. Think about it… all those days when you can’t get anything done? It’s not that you aren’t working like crazy, skipping lunch, etc. And still falling behind.
I had too many days like that in the corporate world. Those days where I wished there were three of me because my to do list was so long.
